Tiki-In-A-Box™ Wind Test

On August 13, 2004 Hurricane Charley passed within 12 miles of Cape Coral, FL. Estimated maximum sustained winds in the Cape were 105 mph. When Charley came ashore 25 miles north of Cape Coral the maximum sustained winds were 145 mph. Gusts of 185 mph were reported. These pictures were taken immediately after the storm passed. The survivors estimate the winds were 50 mph at that time. Note the palm tree in the second picture.

In heavy wind the Dura-Thatch™ lifts up, removing the pressure on the structure by allowing the force to pass between the rows. The automotive style fasteners keep the thatch securely fastened to the aluminum frame. When the event passes, the thatch settles back into place. These two structures survived estimated sustained winds of 105 mph unscathed.
